Liberty’s Bird Of Prey Photography Day (May to Sept)

This day gives you the opportunity to photograph some of our birds both static and flying at Liberty’s Centre and runs from 11.30AM until 2.30 PM after which you are free to remain inside the Centre until closing time. We ask that you arrive at around 11.15AM and meet up in the Café.

After a quick safety talk you will be taken out into our Flying Arena area where we will start off photographing some static birds using our special props and perches to help you get some good pictures of these beautiful creatures. We will then introduce some of our flying birds into the day, both static and then flying. At Midday there will be a public flying display where you are able to take photos of birds in flight followed by more flying with private access to the birds until around 2.30PM.

Refreshments are available from the café

What you need to bring: Comfortable clothing for the environment and for the weather conditions. The ground can be a little wet and muddy, and obviously we will be out in the open so sensible clothing and footwear is a must. Plenty of memory cards and batteries for your camera, people often find that they have taken far more images then they thought they would. We would suggest that you bring a water proof mat, or a simple bin liner, as sometimes it pays to shoot from a low vantage point such as kneeling or lying down.

Recommended Camera Equipment: We recommend a DSLR camera or a high end compact with a zoom of at least 200mm focal length. We have plenty of people using small pocket compacts, but for the most versatility a zoom is useful. You will be able to get fairly close to the birds, around 2 meters for the bigger birds and perhaps closer to the smaller ones at the discretion of the Falconer in charge of them. A tripod can be useful in poor light, as can a flash gun.
