New Forest Owls Photo Day (static)
Your chance to take some stunning static photos of these beautiful birds in natural surroundings and in natural light out in the New Forest. We take a selection of at least 5 Owls out in to the New Forest and pose them on a selection of perches for you to photograph using the forest as a natural setting in which to photograph them. As always an experienced photographer is always on hand should you require advice or help during the course of your day with us.
Your day starts at 9.45am at Liberty’s Owl, Raptor And Reptile Centre near Ringwood in Hampshire where the group will meet up in the cafe for introductions and a brief safety talk. We will then go out to the New Forest location using your own vehicles. The location we use will involve a walk of around 50 to 100 metres over uneven ground.
Once we are there, each bird will be taken out one at a time and set up on various natural perches for you to photograph. These days are great for natural looking static photos of the birds in natural looking surroundings.
The day ends around 2.00pm, after which you are free to return to the Centre if you wish.
What you need to bring: Comfortable clothing for the environment and for the weather conditions. The ground can be a little wet and muddy, and obviously we will be out in the open so sensible clothing and footwear is a must. Plenty of memory cards and batteries for your camera, people often find that they have taken far more images than they thought they would. Also bring a drink and any snacks you might require, but be warned that there are no toilet facilities out where we go! A camping chair can be a useful addition.
Recommended Camera Equipment: We recommend a DSLR camera or a high-end compact with a zoom of at least 200mm focal length. We have plenty of people using small pocket compacts and bridge cameras but for the most versatility a good zoom is useful. You will be able to get fairly close to the birds, around 2 meters for the bigger birds and perhaps closer to the smaller ones at the discretion of the Falconer in charge of them.
A tripod can be useful in poor light, as can a flash gun, and a bin liner can be a useful addition just in case of rain where it can be used as a quick waterproof cover for your gear.
Cost: The Outdoor Owls Photo Day costs £55 per photographer to join. This comprises of a £15 non-refundable Deposit payable at the time of booking and the balance payable on arrival at the Centre on the day. Please contact us to book your day. Public Photo Days are limited to 15 photographers attending on any one day.
Private Bookings: We can take private bookings for these days from clubs and private individuals, which is a great way of enjoying the day in the privacy of your own group. The basic rate is £275 for up to 5 photographers, consisting of a £75 non-refundable Deposit payable upon booking your day with the balance payable on arrival on your day. Any further photographers are charged at £40 a head.
